Wyandottes are a heritage breed that originated in New York state in the early 1870's. They were named for the native Wyandotte Nation, but have no direct historical relation to the tribe. Wyandottes are considered a dual purpose, production layer. They lay an average of 200 large, light brown eggs per year.
The Blue Laced Red (BLRW) color variety is unique in that chicks can hatch out as Blue, Black or Splash Laced Red. These colors are not distinguishable at hatch and we make no guarantees that all of your chicks will be blue. However, we only have Blue Laced Red Wyandottes in our breeding flock, which maximizes the odds of hatching out blue chicks.
The unique thing about these varieties is that you can breed Blue, Black and Splash Laced Red Wyandottes together and hatch out purebred, pure colored chicks.
Blue x Blue = 50% Blue / 25% Black / 25% Splash
Blue x Splash = 50% Blue / 50% Splash
Blue x Black = 50% Blue / 50% Black
Splash x Black = 100% Blue
Black x Black = 100% Black
Splash x Splash = 100% Splash
All of our Wyandottes are bred toward the standard of perfection (SOP) and have mahogany hackles and clean lacing.
